Joel Windsor
By day, Joel Windsor is a high school music teacher and entrepreneur based in High River, Alberta. By night, who knows? At the Mystic Moonlight Masquerade you'll meet him as Gorvin of Tallwood, Major Domo, Host and Herald.
Joel has been hosting events of fantastical, historical and unique flavour for 15 years. He started out providing colour commentary for hockey teams, Arts festivals, sled dog races and cyclocross races. He found his niche in character at "Days of Yore", a living history festival that recently moved to Heritage Park. He has also been the Bard and Herald for Summer Skirmish at the Military Museums, and has been seen on the Renaissance Faire circuit in Alberta and Saskatchewan hosting jousting, historical armoured combat, vikings, cannoneers, and much more.
Joel's high school music program in High River has grown into more than a dozen ensembles - traditional and unconventional alike - from bands to strings to steel pans. Outside of the classroom Joel builds a variety of web applications geared towards supporting music education. He is also a "forever Dungeon Master", and has a passion for crafting story collaboratively with others.
Joel's activities as Gorvin of Tallwood and other characters like him have helped him connect with some of the most marvelous real-life personalities, most of whom do not fit a common mould. As an educator, he doesn't just teach or entertain; he forges genuine connections with performers and participants alike. Whether in the classroom or at the Faire, Joel honours every person he meets, celebrating the unique beauty each person brings to the story.
